Graduate student has recorded 20 points through 10 games
NEW YORK – The St. John's women's soccer team graduate student Jessica Garziano was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Garziano continued her excellent 2023 campaign adding a pair of goals this week for the Red Storm. The attacking midfielder has accumulated seven goals and six assists on the season (20 points). The captain reached the 20-point mark for the first time in her career and became the fastest player to reach that mark since Zsani Kajan in 2021.
The Melville, N.Y., native currently ranks top-3 in the league in six statistical categories- total points (1st), points per game (1st), total assists (1st), assists per game (2nd), total goals (2nd) and goals per game (3rd).
On the national scale, Garziano ranks inside the top-35 in all six of the aforementioned metrics, including an impressive 12th overall in NCAA Division in points per game logging 2.0 per contest.
In Thursday's match against Georgetown, Garziano tallied a goal on assists from Nicole Gordon and Isabelle Aviza, blasting a shot past the Hoyas' Allie Augur in the 79th minute. The Johnnie became just second player to score on Augur this season.
The goal moved the veteran into the top-5 all-time in program history in career points surpassing Lisa Anschwolar, who tallied 64 from 1988-91.
On the road at UConn, Garziano found the back-of-the net once again heading home a long ball from Frederique St.-Jean in the 88th minute to pull the Johnnies level at Morrone Stadium.
Last week, Garziano earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week honors after scoring two goals and tallying two assists against Yale and Harvard.
The Red Storm will be back in action Thursday night when it takes on Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J. at 6 p.m.
