St. John's enters Saturday's matchup at Villanova having won eight of its last 10 contests. The Red Storm picked up its second-straight victory on Tuesday defeating Butler, 86-70, at Carnesecca Arena. Daniss Jenkins led the team with 17 points and seven assists. Freshman forward Brady Dunlap scored a season-high 13 points in 27 minutes off the bench while Joel Soriano (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Chris Ledlum (13 points, 11 rebounds) each notched a double-double. With the victory, the Red Storm improved to 9-1 this season when holding opponents to 70 points or fewer.
On Saturday, the Red Storm will begin a stretch of playing three of its next four games on the road. St. John's has gone 1-1 in road contests this season, as the Johnnies defeated West Virginia, 79-73, in Morgantown, W. Va. on Dec. 1 as part of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle, before dropping a hard-fought contest at then-No. 5/5 UConn on Dec. 23.
The Red Storm picked up two wins in its first three games of BIG EAST action and looks to match its best start in conference play since the 2010-11 campaign with a win over the Wildcats. In victories over Xavier and Butler, the Johnnies averaged 83.5 points per game and shot 48.1 percent from the field with six players averaging double figures. On the defensive end of the floor, St. John's allowed just 68.0 points while averaging 6.5 steals and 6.0 blocks per contest. The Red Storm also locked down on the 3-point line, holding the Musketeers and Bulldogs to just 26.0 percent (13-50 3FG) from distance.
St. John's and Villanova will meet for the 130th time in a series that dates back to 1909. The Wildcats are St. John's most frequently played opponent in program history. Villanova has won the last six meetings against the Red Storm. St. John's last road win in the series was on Feb. 7, 2018, when the Johnnies knocked off the top-ranked Wildcats, 79-75, behind 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals from Shamorie Ponds.
The Red Storm also aims for its first victory at Finneran Pavilion since Jan. 13, 1993, when the Johnnies escaped with a 76-70 win. St. John's great David Cain led the way with 23 points.
Villanova has won four straight games with three of those victories in BIG EAST play. The Wildcats are coming off a 66-65 win over Xavier on Wednesday in the team's conference opener at Finneran Pavilion. Hakim Hart (14) and Brendan Hausen (12) combined for 26 of Villanova's 28 points off the bench. Eric Dixon also scored eight of his 13 points at the free-throw line and led the Wildcats with nine rebounds.

Dixon, a redshirt senior from Willow Grove, Pa., is leading the Wildcats with 14.8 points per game over 14 starts. The 6-foot-7 forward has also pulled down 6.7 rebounds per contest.
After its trip to Villanova, the Red Storm will return to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday to host Providence at 6:30 p.m. on FS1.
