The Jamaican defender secures first career conference weekly honor
QUEENS, N.Y. – After scoring his first collegiate goal against UConn, defender Antonio Biggs captured his first career BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
The Kingston, Jamaica product came off the bench to spark the Red Storm in the second half of its 1-1 draw against the Huskies on Saturday. Biggs sailed over UConn's backline and headed home the equalizer off of a Julian Jakopovic set piece in the 77th minute. The senior defender played just 45 minutes against the Huskies.
Biggs has appeared in 30 career games with the Red Storm, making 29 starts and registering one goal and three assists in nearly 2,600 minutes of work.
With the draw on Saturday, St. John's will host its first-round matchup of the BIG EAST Tournament. Seeding for the postseason slate has yet to be determined. However, the Red Storm can finish as high as second and as low as fourth following outcomes on Saturday.
The Johnnies will look to secure a BIG EAST East Division title against Georgetown on Saturday as they wrap up the conference slate with Senior Day festivities. The contest from Belson Stadium will begin at 2 p.m. and will be streamed to BEDN.
