St. John’s Heads to Butler on Sunday

The Red Storm overwhelmed Butler, 3-0, inside Carnesecca Arena earlier this season
QUEENS, N.Y. – Following a 3-1 victory over Villanova, the St. John's volleyball team will head to Indianapolis for a matchup with Butler on Sunday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m. inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. The match will be streamed on FloSports and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's (19-10, 8-7 BIG EAST) is coming off an important win over Villanova, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Jake Nevin Field House. The win snapped a five-match loss steak at Villanova dating back to the 2018 season. The Red Storm's last win at the venue came on Nov. 4, 2017.
With a win on Sunday, the Red Storm would earn its third consecutive 20-win season and the 14th overall in program history.
Erin Jones continued to dominate on Wednesday, securing her third-straight and seventh triple-double of the season. The junior exploded for 26 assists and 18 kills at a 31.4 hitting percentage with a match-leading 17 digs.
The Albuquerque, N.M. native is one of five players in the country to register seven or more triple-doubles in 2024. The standout currently ranks 24th in points with 465.5, 29th in aces with 45 and 36th in kills with 394, nationally, as of Nov. 15.
With her sixth triple-double of conference play, the right-side hitter is now one shy of tying the BIG EAST single-season conference record, set by Seton Hall's Shelbey Manthorpe in 2013.
Lucrezia Lodi continued her stellar play against the Wildcats, leading the match with 19 kills at a 36.8 percent attack clip. The junior also logged seven digs and two blocks. The Italy product has registered 286 kills, across 27 starts for St. John's this season. She has also tallied 193 digs, 35 total blocks, 10 solo rejections and 20 service aces this season.
Rashanny Solano Smith followed up Monday's BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week nod, by totaling 15 digs, four assists and an ace in Pennsylvania. The Red Storm's libero leads the squad with 374 digs, averaging 3.90 per set, which ranks third in the conference.
Wiktoria Kowalczyk paced the Johnnies in assists for the 28th match this season on Wednesday. The standout produced 28 helpers paired with six digs, three aces and a block in the contest. She currently ranks 47th in the nation with 945 total assists, so far this season.
St. John's will square off with Butler for the 22nd time in program history on Sunday. St. John's holds a slight 11-10 edge in the all-time series between the two schools. In the program's first meeting with the Bulldogs this season, St. John's came out on top with a straight-set sweep, 3-0. Kowalczyk notched her fourth double-double of the season on 32 assists and 10 digs in the match.
Butler welcomes St. John's to Indiana with a 6-20 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the BIG EAST. Conference setter of the week Cora Taylor has racked up 776 assists this season at 8.82 per set, the sixth-best in the league.
Freshman Lauren Evans paces Butler in digs, recording 220 throughout the season. Evans has also tallied 50 assists and a team-leading 28 aces. As a team, Butler ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in blocks per set this season.
Following Sunday's match, St. John's will close out the regular season at home on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 against UConn and Providence, respectively.
