St. John’s to Host UConn and Providence for Final Weekend of Regular Season

The Red Storm are riding a four-match winning streak
QUEENS, N.Y. – Riding a four-match winning streak, the St. John's volleyball team will close out the regular season by hosting UConn and Providence.
The Red Storm will welcome UConn to Queens on Friday at 7 p.m. before battling Providence at 5 p.m. on Saturday for senior night. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
Before Saturday's match, the volleyball program will honor Giorgia Walther, Wiktoria Kowalczyk, Bree Martin and Ariana Robinson for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
St. John's (20-10, 9-7 BIG EAST) extended its winning streak to four matches after taking down Villanova, 3-1, and Butler, 3-1, last week on the road. The Johnnies' win over Butler on Sunday marked the third consecutive 20-win season and the 14th overall in program history.
With either a win this weekend or a Xavier loss, the Red Storm would clinch its third-straight and sixth BIG EAST Tournament berth in the last seven seasons.
Erin Jones went on a tear last week, earning her second-straight BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week nod on Monday after posting 37 assists, 31 kills, 29 digs, three blocks and an ace. The junior also picked up a pair of triple-doubles, extending her impressive streak to four matches.
With her seventh triple-double of conference play on Sunday, the right-side hitter tied the BIG EAST single-season record set by Seton Hall's Shelbey Manthorpe in 2013. Jones has now racked up eight triple-doubles in total this season and is one of five players in NCAA Division I to do so.
Rashanny Solano Smith followed up last week's conference defensive player of the week honor by being tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career. The sophomore totaled 36 digs at 4.50 per set paired with six assists, an ace and the first kill of her season on a pinpoint accurate freeball.
Against Villanova, the Limon, Costa Rica native earned 15 digs, four assists and an ace. On Sunday versus Butler, she rang up a match-leading 21 digs paired with two helpers and a kill.
Magda Stambrowska and Ludovica Zola both logged career-highs against the Bulldogs last Sunday. Stambrowska registered a career-best 14 kills in the contest while Zola produced a career-record nine blocks and seven digs.
Lucrezia Lodi shined yet again last week in the hitting collum. At Villanova, the Italy native led the contest with 19 kills at a 36.8 hitting percentage with seven digs. In Indianapolis, she produced 12 slams and another seven digs.

The Red Storm defeated the Friars in straight sets, 3-0, before falling to the Huskies, 3-2, on the road in the first meetings between the programs this season.
UConn rocks an impressive 22-6 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the BIG EAST. Taylor Pannell ranks seventh in the conference in hitting percentage, logging a 32.2 percent clip to accompany a team-leading 262 kills. Doga Kutlu has thrived in her senior season, producing 1016 assists at 9.86 per set, which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.
Providence comes to Queens with an 8-19 overall mark and a 1-15 BIG EAST record. The Friars earned their first conference victory of the season last Saturday, taking down DePaul, 3-1.
