St. John’s to Meet Virginia in Super 16 Round of the NIVC

The Red Storm swept North Carolina A&T, 3-0, on Saturday night
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Coming off a straight-set sweep of North Carolina A&T, 3-0, the St. John's volleyball team will meet Virginia on Sunday night in the Super 16 Round of the NIVC.
First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Virginia's Memorial Gymnasium in Charlottesville, Va. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com. Tickets are available for purchase on VirginiaSports.com.
The Red Storm (22-12, 10-8 BIG EAST) earned its third-straight opening-round victory in the NIVC, defeating North Carolina A&T on Saturday night, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21). The Red Storm will battle in the NIVC Super 16 for the third-consecutive season. Last year, the Johnnies took down Howard in straight sets, 3-0, in the opening round, before ultimately falling to USF, 3-2, inside Carnesecca Arena.
Erin Jones notched her 10th triple-double of the season on Saturday night. The junior recorded 16 assists, 13 digs and 13 kills with two aces and a block assist in Charlottesville, Va. The right-side hitter previously broke the BIG EAST single-season triple-double record with her eighth of conference play against Providence in the final match of the regular season. Additionally, she is one of four players in the country to register 10 or more triple-doubles this year.
Rashanny Solano Smith went off against the Aggies, racking up 24 digs, 10 of which came in the third set. The Limon, Costa Rica native averaged eight digs per frame in the match with two assists and an ace. The standout libero currently leads the Red Storm with 464 digs at a clip of 4.1 per set. The sophomore has also registered 99 assists and 16 service aces this season.
Ana Benjamim had an impressive showing at Memorial Gymnasium, registering 10 kills at an efficient 47.4 hitting percentage, to go along with an assist, a dig and a block. The freshman's 10 kills mark the second match this season she eclipsed the double-digit kills threshold.
The Red Storm is set to take on Virginia for the first time in program history in the second round of the NIVC. The Cavaliers earned a 21-10 overall record and an 11-9 mark in the ACC in 2024. Virginia is making its first postseason appearance since 1999 and its NIVC bid marks their third postseason trip in program history.
Outside hitter Elayna Duprey is the Cavaliers' offensive leader, pacing the team with 316 kills at 2.93 per set. Joining Duprey is Abby Tadder, who leads the team with 113 total blocks and 11 solo rejections. The middle blocker has also posted 305 total kills at a 27.8 percent hitting clip, with 144 digs and 16 aces.
Ashley Lee and ACC All-Freshman Team member Zoey Dood split setting duties for the Cavaliers. Lee leads the team with 683 assists while Dood has racked up 385 helpers this season. Dood has also posted 65 kills while Lee has logged 254 digs.
The winner of Sunday's match will advance to the Great Eight round of the NIVC to take on UConn. Game time, date and location will be announced at a later date.
