Daniss Jenkins tallied 22 points, six assists and six rebounds in a setback to Golden Eagles on Saturday in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The St. John's men's basketball team (14-10, 6-7) dropped an 86-75 decision to No. 7/7 Marquette (18-5, 9-3) on Saturday in Milwaukee.
Tyler Kolek led the Golden Eagles with 27 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds. Stevie Mitchell scored all 14 of his points in the second half to help Marquette earn the come-from-behind victory.
St. John's guard Daniss Jenkins registered his third 20-point effort of the season, finishing with 22 points shooting 9-for-19 from the field with four 3-pointers. The 6-foot-4 guard also dished out six assists and pulled down six rebounds.
RJ Luis Jr. scored 11 of his 13 points in the opening frame while Nahiem Alleyne added 12 points. Chris Ledlum rounded out the four Johnnies in double figures with 11 points to go with seven boards and five assists. Sophomore Zuby Ejiofor contributed five points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks in 23 minutes off the bench.
The Red Storm led by as many as 15 points in the first half and carried a 47-38 advantage into the break. Jenkins and Luis combined for 24 points in the opening frame. As a team, the Johnnies buried eight of their 12 threes in the first half, while also scoring 17 of its 20 second chance points in the frame.
In the first half, St. John's used an 11-0 run over 2:35 to open a 25-16 advantage. Ejiofor scored four of the first six points of the run while Sean Conway drained a long two at the 10:20 mark to put the Red Storm up nine.
Six minutes later, Jenkins scored eight-straight points to put St. John's ahead 45-30 at 2:33. The 6-foot-4 point guard drained a pair of threes around a driving layup to give the Johnnies their largest lead of the game.
Marquette held close with the Red Storm thanks to Kolek's hot shooting from 3-point range. The 6-foot-3 point guard ended the first half with a triple to cut the deficit to nine at the break and then hit three of the team's first four 3-pointers of the second half to help erase St. John's advantage.
David Joplin's three with 15:24 on the clock gave Marquette its first lead, 55-54, of the second half. From there, neither team led by more than four over the next 12 minutes of action before the Golden Eagles went on an 11-2 run to close the contest.

The Red Storm will close out its two-game road trip on Tuesday at Providence. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Amica Mutual Pavilion. CBS Sports Network will carry the national telecast.
