St. John’s Hosts No. 15/15 Creighton on Johnnies Day at MSG

CBS will carry the national broadcast from “The World’s Most Famous Arena” on Sunday at 12 p.m.
QUEENS, N.Y. – Fresh off a road victory over Georgetown, the St. John's men's basketball team (15-12, 7-9) will welcome No. 15/15 Creighton (20-7, 11-5) to Madison Square Garden on Sunday. CBS will carry the national broadcast from Midtown with tip-off set for 12 p.m.
CBS Sports announcers Andrew Catalon and Steve Lappas will be on the call for the 29th all-time meeting between the Red Storm and Bluejays. An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Brandon Tierney will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 380 and the SiriusXM App.
On Sunday, St. John's will celebrate the proud history and contributions of the University over its 154-year history with its Johnnies Day celebration in New York City. On Johnnies Day, the University encourages the entire St. John's community and the city that it is proud to call home since 1870 to share their school pride both in person at MSG and on social media by using the hashtag #JohnniesDay.
St. John's will also host its annual whiteout game on Sunday and its first at "The World's Most Famous Arena." All Red Storm fans are encouraged to come in white or wear the white Johnnies Day t-shirt that will be distributed to 12,000 fans in attendance.
The University is set to hold a pep rally in the lobby of the Theatre at Madison Square Garden with various giveaways, such as St. John's t-shirts, rally towels, and treats until tip-off. The Z100 Party Patrol will be on site. Johnnies Day will also feature a Penn Station Takeover and prominent branding throughout Moynihan Train Hall.
The Red Storm aims for its second-straight victory after earning a 90-85 road win on Wednesday at Georgetown. St. John's shot a season-high 57.6 percent from the field against the Hoyas while Jordan Dingle led the Johnnies with a season-best 22 points.
St. John's returns to Madison Square Garden for its first contest in Midtown in just over three weeks. The Johnnies own a 10-4 record at home this season, including a 5-3 mark against BIG EAST opponents. St. John's last win at "The World's Most Famous Arena" was a 20-point rout of Villanova on Jan. 24. Joel Soriano went 21 points shooting 8-for-9 from the field to go with eight rebounds in the victory over the Wildcats.
The Red Storm looks for its first win over a ranked opponent since last year's Johnnies Day when St. John's took down No. 20/17 Providence on Feb. 11, 2023 at MSG. Soriano recorded a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) to help lift the Johnnies to a 73-68 victory.
St. John's and Creighton will meet at Madison Square Garden for just the third time in series history. The Red Storm has won each of the previous two meetings, including an 84-66 victory in their last contest at The Garden on Feb. 7, 2015. D'Angelo Harrison led St. John's with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
In the first meeting this season on Jan. 13 in Omaha, the Bluejays edged St. John's, 66-65, in a game that featured 18 lead changes and seven ties. Soriano led the Red Storm with 13 points and 11 rebounds. In the final 10 seconds, St. John's had two shot attempts to win the game that were just off the mark.
Creighton has won four-straight games and is coming off an 85-66 victory over No. 1/1 Connecticut on Tuesday at CHI Health Center Omaha. Steven Ashworth led the Bluejays with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the victory over the Huskies.
The Bluejays enter Sunday's matchup with a 5-3 record in BIG EAST road games. Creighton has won its last two road contests defeating Xavier, 78-71, on Feb. 10 before knocking off Butler, 79-57, on Feb. 17. Baylor Scheierman has averaged 20.4 points and 9.8 rebounds for the Bluejays on the road in conference play.
Following Sunday's contest with Creighton, St. John's will travel to Indianapolis for a matchup on Wednesday with Butler. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse. CBS Sports Network will carry the national broadcast.
