Cieslar Places Second in Women’s Saber, Feygin Ties for Third in Epee

The Red Storm currently sit in fifth at the NCAA Championships after women’s competition wraps up
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The St. John's women's fencing team wrapped up its portion at the NCAA Championships on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.
Julia Cieslar competed to a second-place finish in the women's saber. The junior finished pool play with 14 wins to claim the fourth seed in the elimination rounds. Cieslar then upset one-seed Ryan Jenkins of Princeton, 15-9, to advance to the championship. Cieslar came close in the finals, falling 15-10 to Brandeis' Maggie Shealy to secure second place on the podium.
In the women's epee, freshman Nicole Feygin also competed to a top-three finish. Feygin racked up 16 victories in pool play to claim the third seed in the elimination round. After falling to eventual champion, Emily Vermele of Harvard, Feygin finished tied for third.
Malwina Kolodziejczyk represented the Red Storm in the women's foil, finishing in 17th place in her second NCAA Championship. Catinca Dumitru impressed in her debut on the national stage, placing 11th in the saber while Elisa Treglia competed to 23rd place in the epee.
After the first two days of competition, St. John's sits in fifth place overall with all three men's competitions remaining. Saturday will feature rounds one through three before the championship rounds on Sunday in Columbus.
