Daniil Mazur Wins National Collegiate Men’s Fencing Elite Scholar-Athlete Award

The sophomore was recognized for his success on and off the strip
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — St. John's men's fencer Daniil Mazur received the National Collegiate Men's Fencing Elite Scholar-Athlete Award, the NCAA announced at the 2026 Championships hosted by Notre Dame on Sunday.
Mazur becomes the first St. John's student-athlete to earn the award.
Formerly known as the Elite 90 award, the Elite Scholar-Athlete Award celebrates the balance of academic excellence and athletic achievement by recognizing student-athletes who compete at the national championship level while excelling in the classroom. This honor is awarded to the participant at each NCAA championships finals site who holds the highest cumulative grade-point average among all competitors.
Eligible student athletes are sophomores or above academically and have competed in a sport at their school for at least two years.
Mazur, a computing and machine learning major, owns a 4.0 GPA and has showcased his skill in the classroom and on the strip in his junior campaign.
The Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, native finished 15th overall in men's epee at the NCAA Northeast Regionals hosted by Vassar on March 8. Mazur also put together strong showings at the Brian Palestis Memorial on Feb. 1 and the Temple Invitational on Feb. 22, finishing 5-1 overall at each event.
