St. John’s Sends Eight Fencers to 2026 NCAA Championships

The Red Storm is set to compete for a second straight national title
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's fencing team is set to compete at the 2026 NCAA Fencing National Championships, as eight student-athletes will represent the Red Storm in South Bend, Ind., as Notre Dame will host the national competition.
Daniil Mazur, Samuel Imrek, Jan Nowak, Sebastian Garcia, Adham Moataz and Vlad Covaliu will represent the men's squad, while Catinca Dumitru and Nicole Feygin will compete on the women's side.
At last season's NCAA Championships, Darii Lukashenko was crowned the men's saber individual national champion after defeating Notre Dame's Radu Nitu 15-7.
The Red Storm earned its bids following strong performances at the NCAA Northeast Regional on March 8, highlighted by Covaliu capturing his second consecutive men's saber regional title. Moataz finished as the runner-up in the weapon, giving St. John's the top two finishers in men's saber.
Imrek led the men's epee group with a fifth-place finish, while Mazur added a 15th-place result. In men's foil, Nowak and Garcia both placed inside the top 10, finishing seventh and ninth, respectively.
On the women's side, Dumitru paced the squad with a sixth-place finish in women's saber, while Feygin delivered a strong showing in women's epee, placing 13th after improving from her finish a season ago.

The women will begin competition on March 19. Feygin will represent St. John's in women's epee with rounds 1 through 3 scheduled for 9 a.m. on March 19, followed by rounds 4 and 5 at 9 a.m. on March 20. The semifinals and championship bouts will take place at 1:30 p.m. on March 20.
Dumitru will compete in women's saber with rounds 1 through 3 set for 1:30 p.m. on March 19. Rounds 4 and 5 will begin at 9 a.m. on March 20, followed by the semifinals and championship bouts at 1:30 p.m. later that day.
The men will take to the strip beginning on March 21. Imrek and Mazur will compete in men's epee with rounds 1 through 3 scheduled for 9 a.m. on March 21. Rounds 4 and 5 will take place at 9 a.m. on March 22, followed by the semifinals and championship bouts at 1:30 p.m.
Nowak and Garcia will represent the Red Storm in men's foil with rounds 1 through 3 beginning at 11 a.m. on March 21. Rounds 4 and 5 are set for 9 a.m. on March 22, followed by the semifinals and championship bouts at 1:30 p.m.
Covaliu and Moataz will compete in men's saber with rounds 1 through 3 scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on March 21. Rounds 4 and 5 will take place at 9 a.m. on March 22, followed by the semifinals and championship bouts at 1:30 p.m.
