St. John’s to Face Kansas State in Big 12 - BIG EAST Battle

Red Storm and Wildcats to square off for the first time in nearly 60 years
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball team will host Kansas State in this year's edition of the Big 12 – BIG EAST Battle on Dec. 7, 2024, as announced by the conferences on Thursday.
Ticket information, game location and TV listings for the contest will be announced at a later date.
The Red Storm and Wildcats will meet for just the third time in a series that began in 1961. The two programs will also square off for the first time since the Johnnies secured a 72-65 win on Dec. 10, 1965. Led by first year Head Coach Lou Carnesecca, St. John's Hall of Famers Sonny Dove and Ken McIntyre scored off 27 and 22 points, respectively, in the victory over the Wildcats as part of the Sunflower Doubleheader at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan.
Last season, the Johnnies evened their record at 2-2 in the Big 12 – BIG EAST Battle with a 79-73 win at West Virginia on Dec. 1. Red Storm center Joel Soriano posted 24 points to go with nine boards and three blocks. Chris Ledlum logged a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double while Nahiem Alleyne chipped in 14 points off the Red Storm bench.
The BIG EAST went 8-2 during the first edition of the event in 2019-20. The conference split each of the next three seasons, going 3-3 in 2020-21, 5-5 in 2021-22 and 5-5 in 2022-23. Last season, the Big 12 held a 7-4 advantage in The Battle.
St. John's is coming off a 20-win campaign in its first year under Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino. The Red Storm earned 11 victories in BIG EAST play, marking the program's most since the 2010-11 campaign. St. John's won six of its final seven games and made its first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals since 2000.
