Svoboda set to compete at Pinehurst from June 13-16
SUMMIT, N.J.– For the second consecutive year, St. John's men's golf alumnus Andy Svoboda earned his spot in the 124th U.S. Open on Monday during final qualifying.
The former Johnnie emerged from a field of 72 golfers to claim one of four spots at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J. Svoboda carded a 9-under, 133, over 36 holes to tally a third place finish on golf's longest day. He finished with a 6-under, 65, in the second round and recorded 14 birdies on the day.
The Milford, Conn., native is set to make his sixth-ever start at the 124th annual U.S. Open, which will be held at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina on June 13-16.
Svoboda will join fellow alumnus and major winner Keegan Bradley in representing St. John's at our nation's open. It will mark his second major of the year after competing at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., last month.
During his time in Queens where he starred for Head Coach Frank Darby from 1999-2003, Svoboda tallied a program-best 14 individual wins. While with the Red Storm, he won the 2001 BIG EAST title and competed in NCAA Regionals that same year.
