St. John’s Basketball to Host 14th Annual Dribble for Victory Over Cancer on Sept. 21

The Red Storm men’s and women’s basketball programs have helped raise over $1 millon for pediatric cancer since event’s inception
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's and women's basketball programs will host their 14th annual Dribble for Victory Over Cancer on Saturday, September 21, in conjunction with University Service Day. All participants dribble a basketball around campus alongside members of both Red Storm Basketball programs, and are treated to entertainment, refreshments, games, and much more.
Dribble for Victory Over Cancer, formerly known as Dribble for the Cure, is a joint venture between the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) and the V Foundation for Cancer Research to end childhood cancer. All proceeds from the event support the work of Dr. Mitchell Cairo, Chief of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation at New York Medical College.
Festivities are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Carnesecca Arena Plaza. A formal welcome ceremony will start at 11:30 a.m. followed by participants dribbling through an approximately 30-minute course around the St. John's campus which ends at Carnesecca Arena. Dribble for Victory Over Cancer concludes with an awards ceremony, as well as a meet & greet and autograph session with St. John's men's and women's basketball players. This year's event will be supported by NIL collectives, Storm Marketing and Flat Top Fund.
Registration is $30 for adults and $25 for children. All participants who register will receive a personalized fundraising page, an official Dribble for Victory Over Cancer t-shirt and a gift bag. Supporters who are unable to attend in person can still be part of the event by registering as a virtual participant.
Since its inception in 2011, St. John's Dribble for Victory Over Cancer has raised over $1 million for pediatric cancer research.
Since its founding in 1982, the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation has invested more than $45 million and funded almost 50 research institutions. Survival rates from childhood cancers continue to rise from 10 percent to nearly 85 percent, thanks in large part to the efforts of the PCRF and like-minded organizations.
Inspired by its co-founder and namesake, Jim Valvano, the V Foundation has awarded nearly $350 million in cancer research grants since its inception in 1993. One hundred percent of donations to the V Foundation go directly to cancer research.
