Red Storm senior honored by league for weekly efforts
NEW YORK - St. John's volleyball star Erin Jones was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following another impressive weekend of performances, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.Â
Jones continues to pace the BIG EAST in triple-doubles with five total, earning her fifth last Friday night at Providence. The Albuquerque, N.M., native recorded a new career-high 28 kills to go along with 14 assists and 16 digs in the 3-1 victory. Jones is the first player in the BIG EAST to record a triple-double in conference play. Her 28 kills are tied for the most by any player in a match this season and stands as the kill tally in a four-set match.Â
Against UConn on Saturday, Jones recorded 21 assists to lead the Johnnies, marking the fifth time this season she's recorded more than 20 assists in a match. She chipped in 14 digs and was one kill shy from her second triple-double of the weekend.Â
Through four conference matches, the opposite hitter leads the BIG EAST with 69 kills, averaging 4.31 kills per set.
Jones and the Red Storm return to Carnesecca Arena to begin a three-match homestand on Friday, welcoming DePaul for a 7 p.m. match, followed by Marquette on Saturday at 5 p.m. Seton Hall rounds out the homestand on Oct. 14, with first serve at 12 p.m.Â
