The Red Storm are back in action tomorrow at DePaul
MILWAUKEE (Nov. 7, 2025) – The St. John's volleyball team (8-18, 4-9 BIG EAST) fell to Marquette (14-9, 8-5 BIG EAST) on Friday evening at the Al McGuire Center, 3-0. The set scores were 21-25, 15-25 and 17-25.
The Red Storm saw two players notch double-digit kill totals and finished the match with four service aces.
Chloe Bell led the way offensively, tying her career-high with 10 kills on a .471 hitting percentage. Martina Ghezzi also reached double figures with 10 kills, marking the seventh time in her last eight outings that the junior has posted 10-plus kills. Erin Jones paced the offense with 28 assists. On the defensive end, Rashanny Solano Smith collected a match-high 17 digs, while Jones and Kya Harris each registered 1.5 blocks.
The opening frame featured a tightly contested start, as the two sides were even at 8-8 before Marquette created separation. Trailing 15-10, St. John's took its first timeout to regroup. The Johnnies battled back to cut the deficit to three at 23-20, prompting a Marquette timeout, but the Golden Eagles held on to take the first set, 25-21.
In the second stanza, St. John's erased an early deficit with a 5-1 run to tie the score at 10-10, and later took its first lead of the match at 13-12. Marquette responded with a decisive 7-1 spurt and pulled away to take the set, 25-15, and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Golden Eagles carried the momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 7-3 advantage. St. John's continued to push, fending off match point three times late, but Marquette closed out the match with a 25-17 win.
The Red Storm will be back in action tomorrow in the Windy City, taking on DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena. First serve is set for 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. CT).
