"To be able to host our program's first standalone women's basketball game at the The World's Most Famous Arena is a testament to their leadership and commitment. The growth of the women's game has been undeniable over the last few years and it's an honor for St. John's to help write the next chapter in this incredible story."
The St. John's women's basketball program will play at The Mecca for the 19th time in the program's history, holding an all-time record of 11-7. The Johnnies have won back-to-back conference games at MSG, including a 65-43 victory over Butler last season on Feb. 16, 2025. Head Coach Joe Tartamella in his 14th season at the helm carries a 5-2 overall record inside MSG.
"Growing up in New York, there's truly no place like Madison Square Garden. The history, the pageantry speaks for itself and I never take for granted the opportunity for our program to play there," said Coach Tartamella. "We are excited to have another opportunity to compete at the highest level inside "The World's Most Famous Arena" and need the support of our entire fanbase."
St. John's and UConn will meet at MSG for the fourth time ever and the first in over a decade, when the two faced off in the Maggie Dixon Classic on Jan. 4, 2015. The Huskies are currently the No. 1 ranked team in the country and are coming off the program's 12thNational Championship.
The Red Storm is off to an 8-2 start on the year, highlighted by its highest ranked non-conference victory in over a decade as it downed then-No. 18/21 Oklahoma State, 74-67, on Nov. 19. The Johnnies boast two players that rank top-25 in the nation in field goal percentage in Sa'Mya Wyatt and Brooke Moore.
