QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's senior guard Oziyah Sellers earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Monday.
Sellers led six St. John's players in double-figures with a team-high 19 points in the 91-64 victory over Iona at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. The Hayward, Calif., native shot 4-for-7 (57.1%) from 3-point range as well as 7-for-13 (53.6%) from the field and chipped in five boards.
The senior scored 16 of his 19 points during a 55-point second half for the Red Storm as it ran away with a convincing victory at The World's Most Famous Arena. Sellers shot 4-for-5 (80%) from 3-point land and 6-for-8 (75.0%) from field goal range over the final 20 minutes.
The Stanford transfer is one of six players to boast a double-digit scoring average this season, posting 11.9 points per game, which ranks third on the team. Sellers shoots a team-best 46.3 percent from beyond-the-arc and is averaging 2.1 made triples per game, which ranks eighth in the BIG EAST.
Sellers becomes the third St. John's player to be named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this season joining Bryce Hopkins (Nov. 24) and Zuby Ejiofor (Dec. 8). Ejiofor was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Nov. 10. The weekly award marks the first of Sellers career.
St. John's will open up BIG EAST play on Tuesday as it welcomes to DePaul to Carnesecca Arena for a 7 p.m. contest on Peacock.
