St. John’s Sits in Second Place After Day One of the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Red Storm has earned 27 total points across four events
CHICAGO – The St. John's track & field team sits in second place after the first day of competition at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center in Chicago.
As a team, the Red Storm has earned 27 total points from four events. UConn sits in first place after tallying 115 points and dominating in the pentathlon.
Cassandra Lemus-Sodji showed out in the long jump, producing a major career-best leap of 6.00 meters for third place, a bronze medal and six points for the Red Storm.
Juliet Smith garnered a bronze medal in the weight throw, producing a massive personal-best heave of 16.95 meters for third place and six points. Jamora Alves finished in fourth with a career-record finishing mark of 16.88 meters and five points.
Berit Friedenbach finished in fifth place in the pole vault, producing a season-best 3.45-meter leap while Colette Metcalf placed sixth off a mark of 3.30 meters, combining for six points in the event.
The Johnnies earned a point in the distance medley relay, as Ezgi Yasar, Maddie Kelso-Heap, Leilani Robinson and Leyre Campo de Quevedo finished in eighth, off a time of 12:00.16
Both Lemus-Sodji and Karese Lloyd moved on to the 60-meter dash finals on Friday evening. Lemus-Sodji ended her day in second place with a personal-record 7.50-second effort, while Lloyd grabbed the last spot with a 7.74-second mark for eighth.
Danella Dawkins advanced to the 60-meter hurdle finals, posting a personal-record mark of 8.63 seconds in the event.
Chinenye Onuorah sits in first place in the 400-meter dash after the preliminary round. The junior from Thailand rang up a 54.23-second finish to advance to tomorrow's final round.
Nora Haugen is currently in second place in the 800-meter run, finishing her day with a 2:09.30 effort.
Both Onuorah and Amarachukwu Obi both moved on to the 200-meter finals. Onuorah finished the preliminary round in third place on a season-best 24.17-second mark, while Obi came in eighth on a season-record time of 24.82 seasons.
The Red Storm will be back in action tomorrow to close out the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships. The second day of the championship meet will kick off at 12 p.m. ET at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center in Chicago.
