NEW YORK – St. John's softball's Ana Serafinko earned her second consecutive BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honor, while London Jarrard was tabbed to the weekly honor roll, announced by the conference on Monday.
The Johnnies are coming off a 3-1 week at Red Storm Field after sweeping Providence this past weekend, improving to 8-1 in BIG EAST play.
Serafinko appeared in all four games this week, notching a 0.39 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. The left-hander opened the series against Providence with a win on Friday, allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits while notching 10 punchouts in a complete-game effort. In the middle contest, Serafinko earned her fourth save of the season, tossing a clean seventh inning to secure a 2-1 victory for the Red Storm. On Sunday, the junior tossed another complete game, finishing with seven strikeouts and giving up just one unearned run on four hits in her second win of the weekend.
The honor marks back-to-back BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors for Serafinko, who tops the conference with a 1.38 ERA and 68 punchouts in conference play. Last week, Serafinko finished with a 1.45 ERA and a whopping 38 strikeouts in 19.1 innings to earn the award. The Chino Hills, Calif., product has also been named to the conference's weekly honor roll twice this season (March 10 and 17).
Jarrard led the Red Storm offense to earn her first nod to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this season. The shortstop went 5-for-12 (.417) with one home run and five RBIs across the four games last week. In Friday's contest against the Friars, Jarrard tallied a two-run home run and an RBI single to lead St. John's to a 9-2 win. Jarrard also delivered the eventual game-deciding hit with a two-RBI single in the second inning of Sunday's 3-1 victory.
The senior has now been tabbed to the conference's weekly honor roll for the fifth time in her career. Earlier this year, Jarrard was named BIG EAST Player of the Week twice (March 3 and 17) for the first time in her remarkable career. The Carlsbad, Calif., native leads the Red Storm with a .420 batting average, nine doubles, six home runs and 38 RBIs.
Serafinko, Jarrard and the rest of the Johnnies will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Staten Island, N.Y., for a midweek clash with Wagner at 2 p.m.
