QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 6/6 St. John's men's basketball team (26-4, 17-2 BIG EAST) will close the regular season on Saturday at No. 20/20 Marquette (22-8, 13-6 BIG EAST) at 12 p.m. ET on FOX.
FOX Sports announcers Brendan Gaudin and Robbie Hummel will call the action from Fiserv Forum on the final day of regular season competition.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Vin Parise will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM radio channel 83 and via the SiriusXM App.
The Red Storm will head to Milwaukee after clinching its first outright BIG EAST Regular Season title in 40 years with a 71-61 triumph over Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. St. John's will look to tie a program record for regular season victories eyeing its 27th of the year. The Johnnies would match the 1985-86 squad that went 27-4 during the regular season and went on to finish with a 31-5 overall mark while earning the 1986 BIG EAST Tournament Championship.
RJ Luis Jr. paced the Johnnies against the Pirates with 21 points. The junior wing has eclipsed the 20-point mark in four of his last six games and ranks fourth in league in scoring with 17.8 points per game. On Wednesday, the Miami, Fla., native was named one of five finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year award.
In their last win over Seton Hall, the Johnnies dominated the glass outrebounding the Pirates, 41-23. The Red Storm enters Saturday's contest at Marquette ranked top-10 nationally in rebounds (40.7) and offensive boards (14.5) per game. Zuby Ejiofor leads NCAA Division I in offensive rebounding, pulling down 4.23 per game. The Red Storm recorded a plus-22 rebounding margin in its first meeting with Marquette, its highest in a conference regular season game in 19 years.
St. John's has won 15 of its last 16 contests dating back to the beginning of the new year, including five straight wins. The Johnnies are seeking their fourth top-25 victory of the season, which would mark the most since it went 6-5 against ranked opponents in 2010-11. The Red Storm will also look to become just the second team in BIG EAST history to win 18 conference regular season games joining last year's UConn team, which went on to win a National Championship.
The Red Storm will look to complete a season sweep of the Golden Eagles for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Four of the last five meetings between the two conference foes have been decided by six points or fewer. On Feb. 4, the Red Storm downed then-No. 11/11 Marquette, 70-64, behind an 18-point, 11-rebound performance from Kadary Richmond at Madison Square Garden.
Winning four of its last six games, No. 20/20 Marquette has a 22-8 overall record and 13-6 mark in BIG EAST action. The Golden Eagles also own a 14-2 record at home inside Fiserv Forum. Marquette ranks second in the nation in turnover margin (+6.1), sixth in points off turnovers per game (18.1), 19th in in steals per game (9.2) and 19th in turnovers forced per game (15.1).
Senior guard Kam Jones (18.5 ppg.) has reached double figures in scoring in 46 straight games, tied with Villanova's Eric Dixon for the longest current streak in the country.
Following Saturday's contest and the conclusion of the regular season, the Red Storm will gear up for the 2025 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Tournament at Madison Square Garden. St. John's will be the top-seed for the first time since 1986. The Johnnies will face the winner of Providence and Butler in the quarterfinal round on Thursday at noon on Peacock.
