St. John’s Sweeps Past Monmouth, 4-0

The Johnnies have won five of their last six matches
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The St. John's women's tennis team took down Monmouth, 4-0, on Thursday night in West Long Branch, N.J.
The Johnnies (13-5, 5-0 BIG EAST) swept doubles play to take the team point before earning three victories in singles play to pick up their fifth win in the last six matches.
Giulia Bizzari and Alexandra Nielsen kicked off partner play with a 6-2 triumph over Faith Sadgrove and Becky Fisher on the No. 2 court, improving to 2-0 this season as a pair. On the No. 1 court, Alicia Gomez and Sandra Dzhambazov bested Lana Brezanin and Lauren Landstrom, 6-3, in their first match as a duo this season, clinching the team point for the visitors.
In singles play, Charlotta Buss picked up her seventh win of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set triumph over Hana McKinney on the No. 2 court, while Nielsen played to a 6-0, 5-7 decision against Landstrom at No. 3 singles.
Dzhambazov secured her second victory of the afternoon and team-leading 11th solo win of the season, downing Ximena Cano, 6-3, 6-1, on the No. 4 court, finishing off the Red Storm's seventh shutout of the season.
With the victory, St. John's improves to 3-0 all-time against the Hawks, earning wins in each of the past three seasons.
The Johnnies will wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they head to Storrs, Conn., for a noon showdown with UConn on the UConn Tennis Courts.
