QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team cruised through Fairfield, 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Johnnies (2-1) got off to a fast start at No. 3 doubles, as BIG EAST Team of the Week members Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman defeated Maeve Cassidy and Nicolette Loeffler, 6-2. St. John's secured the doubles point on the No. 1 court, with Noemi Babikova and Victoria Papadopoulou topping Maria Gell and Victoria Mandma, 6-3.
Carrying that momentum into singles, Papadopoulou dominated the No. 1 court with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Anna Neyestani. Babikova followed suit on the No. 2 court, recording a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mandma to extend St. John's lead to 2-0.
The Red Storm sealed the match on the No. 3 court, as freshman Nao Kojima earned a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Sophia Harris. With the victory, St. John's extends its winning streak over Fairfield to 14 matches, dating back to 2011.
Next up, the Johnnies will return to action in the Garden State to face Princeton on Sunday, with first serve set for 5 p.m.
