St. John’s Set to Face Fairfield and Princeton This Weekend

The Johnnies will host the Stags on Friday before traveling to the Tigers on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will prepare for a pair of matchups against Fairfield and Princeton this weekend.
The Red Storm will host its home opener on Friday when it welcomes Fairfield for a 12:15 p.m. start at the USTA National Tennis Center. On Sunday, the Johnnies will travel to the Garden State to take on Princeton at 5 p.m. at the Si Qin Family Indoor Facility.
The Red Storm began its season in Fort Meyers, Fla. splitting their matchups against Florida Gulf Coast where the squad dropped the season opener in a tightly contested matchup 3-4. Head Coach Lauren Leo's squad followed that matchup up with a decisive 6-1 victory over Miami Ohio.
Captain Alicia Gomez and freshman Abi Redman swept the BIG EAST weekly awards. Gomez claimed singles player of the week while Redman and Gomez were tabbed doubles team of the week for their standout performances against FGCU and Miami Ohio.
Gomez went 4-0 overall during the inaugural week of the 2026 spring campaign, including two doubles victories with Redman. The honor marks the third weekly award of Gomez's career and her first of the season. For Redman, it is the first conference weekly award of her career, highlighting a strong start to her opening season for the Red Storm.
Fairfield returns to Queens for the second consecutive season, beginning their campaign on Wednesday at UConn before heading to Queens. Last season, the Stags posted a 6-2 conference record and advanced to the MAAC Tournament championship.
St. John's has won 13 straight meetings against Fairfield, including a 9-0 mark under Leo. Last season, the Johnnies defeated the Stags behind captain Gomez's stellar performance, going 2-0 overall in both singles and doubles competition.
Princeton has started the season with a 2-0 record, defeating James Madison 4-3 and Rutgers 5-2 at home. Under head coach Elizabeth Begley, the Tigers return from a 10-win season, going 3-4 in Ivy League play. Leading the way is Alice Ferlito, who posted an 18-12 singles record at No. 1 last season and earned an NCAA Singles Tournament bid and First Team All-Ivy League selection.
St. John's is seeking its first victory over Princeton in program history. This weekend's matchup will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs, with the most recent contest taking place in February 2014.
