St. John’s Earns No. 3 Seed in BIG EAST Tournament; Will Face Winner of Butler and Providence in the Quarterfinals

NEW YORK – The St. John's women's tennis team will begin play in the BIG EAST Tournament Presented by JEEP in Friday's quarterfinals as the No. 3 seed. The tournament will be played on April 17-20 in Cayce, S.C., with a rain date set for Monday the 21st.
The Johnnies will face the winner of Thursday's first-round matchup between sixth-seeded Butler and No. 11 Providence on Friday at 9 a.m. Saturday's semifinals and Sunday's championship are both slated to start at 9 am.
St. John's has advanced to the conference semifinals in nine consecutive tournaments under Head Coach Lauren Leo. As the No. 6 seed a year ago, the Red Storm upset third-seeded Georgetown in the quarterfinals before falling to No. 2 DePaul in the semifinals.
The Johnnies, who went 13-5 this season and 5-1 in BIG EAST play, has been led by Sandra Dzhambazov, who went 12-1 in singles action in her first season in Queens. Alicia Gomez has also been strong this season, earning a 12-4 solo record and a 12-5 doubles mark alongside Noemi Babikova, Victoria Papadopoulou and Dzhambazov.
Giulia Bizzari and Charlotta Buss also amassed six wins as a pair in doubles action.
