St. John’s Takes Down Georgetown, 4-2

The Red Storm improve to 4-1 in BIG EAST play
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team defeated Georgetown (4-8, 2-2 BIG EAST), 4-2, on Saturday night at the Queens College Tennis Center.
With the win, the Red Storm improve to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in BIG EAST play. St. John's secured the doubles point and added three singles victories to clinch the match.
Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman opened doubles play with a 6-3 win over Paige Gilbert and Ashley Kennedy on the No. 1 court. Charlotta Buss and Giulia Bizzari followed by sealing the doubles point with a convincing victory on the No. 3 court against Katie Garofolo-Ro and Emily Novikov.
Leading 1-0, Buss carried the momentum into singles play, posting a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court. Georgetown answered with a win of its own before Noemi Babikova restored a two-point advantage for the Johnnies, defeating Julia Chu, 6-0, 6-4, on the No. 2 court.
The Hoyas narrowed the deficit once again with a victory on the No. 6 court, but Victoria Papadopoulou secured the match for St. John's with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Novikov on the No. 1 court.
The Red Storm will return to action on Wednesday when they host FDU at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
