No. 3 St. John’s Falls Short in BIG EAST Semifinals to No. 2 Xavier, 4-1

The Johnnies have advanced to the semifinals in 10 straight conference tournaments
CAYCE, S.C. – The No. 3 St. John's women's tennis team earned a 5-0 shutout victory over No. 6 Butler on Friday in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals.
Xavier took control of doubles play with a win at the top position before Sandra Dzhambazov and Giulia Bizzari squeaked out a 7(7)-6(3) triumph over Elizabeth Pendergast and Madeline Rexroat. The Musketeers won on the No. 3 court to claim the team point and take a 1-0 lead.
Victoria Papadopoulou got the Red Storm on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Pendergast on the No. 1 court, but Xavier took matches at the No. 3, 4,and 5 courts to finish off the victory and earn its spot in tomorrow's championship match.
Noemi Babikova took the first set over Abby Nugent on the No. 2 court and Dzhambazov took the opening set against Natalie Smitek before the match was ultimately deemed unfinished.
St. John's, which made its 10th straight appearance in the BIG EAST semifinals on Saturday, finishes the 2025 schedule with a 14-7 record and a 5-1 mark in conference play.
