2014 St. John’s graduate wins Final Qualifier in Maryland after shooting 10-under
ROCKVILLE, Md.- Former St. John's men's golfer Ryan McCormick qualifies for his first U.S. Open during "Golf's Longest Day" on Monday.
The 2014 graduate of St. John's shot 10-under, 132, to win the U.S. Open Final Qualifier by five strokes at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md. The Long Island native paced the field shooting consecutive rounds of 5-under, 66, during the 36-hole tournament.
McCormick captured first place in the field to qualify for his first for his first-ever major championship. The former Johnnie earned his spot in the 125th edition of the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania from June 12-15.
McCormick's qualification marks the third consecutive year multiple St. John's golfers will compete in the U.S. Open as he will join Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley in the field. Andy Svoboda advanced to the U.S. Open through final qualifying in 2023-24.
During his time at St. John's, McCormick was three-time All-BIG EAST selection and was named the 2014 BIG EAST Golfer of the Year. He recorded 19 rounds under par during his tenure in Queens from 2010-14 and guided the program to its first BIG EAST Championship since 1989 during his senior campaign.
