St. John’s Women’s Basketball Adds Mike Gibson as Director of Basketball Operations

Gibson brings 14 years of operations experience at the Division I level
QUEENS, N.Y.– St. John's Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella announced the addition of Mike Gibson as the program's Director of Basketball Operations on Tuesday.
Gibson brings 17 years of experience on a NCAA Division I women's basketball staff and 14 years specializing in operations during stints with Hofstra and Boston College.
"Mike is a veteran in the business and brings 17 years of experience in Division I Basketball," Tartamella said. "He has an incredible amount of knowledge and will be an impactful asset to the program."
Gibson arrives from his alma mater, Boston College, where he spent eight years at Director of Women's Basketball Operations from 2018-2025. In this role, he oversaw all operational aspects of the program including budget management, game and practice schedule coordination, oversight of academics, coordinating team travel, managed equipment partnership with New Balance and directed program alumni event and youth camps.
Prior to his tenure in Chestnut Hill, Gibson spent a decade at Hofstra as an Assistant Coach (2015-18) and Director of Women's Basketball Operations (2008-15). As an assistant coach, he was responsible for scouting reports, recruiting, post player development and game scheduling for three seasons. In his prior role, he coordinated all logistics for the squad for seven seasons.
The Andover, Mass., native graduated from Boston College with a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance in 2008. Gibson began his experience working in college basketball as a student manager for the Eagles and was a part of the team during their Sweet 16 run in 2006.
Gibson resides in Larchmont, N.Y. with his wife, Kathleen and children Griffin (6) and Addison (1).
