Red Storm will look to defend regular season title after matching league-record 18 BIG EAST wins during the 2024-25 campaign
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST unveiled its men's basketball conference schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 season on Thursday afternoon. St. John's is slated to play nine of its 10 home league contests inside Madison Square Garden.
The defending BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Champions matched a league record for victories last season recording an 18-2 mark in conference play. The Johnnies captured 16 of their final 17 league games to run away with the regular season crown, the program's first outright title in 40 years, by three games.
Including St. John's exhibition contest at The World's Most Famous Arena against Michigan on Oct. 25, the Red Storm will have 13 games at Madison Square Garden, the most excluding postseason competition since the current location of the iconic arena opened in 1968. The 12 regular season games at "The Mecca" will mark the most since the 1951-52 campaign when St. John's played a dozen times prior to its run to the national championship game.
This will mark the program's second straight season playing a record number of BIG EAST games at "The Mecca." Prior to last year's eight conference contests, the Red Storm had never played more than seven league games at MSG since the conference's creation in 1979.
Madison Square Garden Ticket Plans are on-sale now, to catch all 12 regular season games in Midtown Manhattan, click here, call 1-888-GO-STORM or visit RedStormTix.com. Single-game tickets for all games will be released at a later date.
Tip-off times and TV designations will be announced at a later date. The BIG EAST Conference has entered a new comprehensive media rights agreement for the 2025-26 campaign that includes coverage on FOX Sports (FOX, FS1, FS2), NBC Sports (NBC, Peacock) and TNT Sports (TNT, TBS, truTV and Max).
For the second straight year, St. John's will begin BIG EAST play by welcoming DePaul on Dec. 16 at Carnesecca Arena. Under 2024-25 National Coach of the Year Rick Pitino, the Red Storm have won all 14 contests by double-digits at its on-campus venue and boast an average margin of victory of 22.5 points per game inside the friendly confines of Carnesecca Arena.
.
Following contests against Kentucky and Harvard before Christmas, the Johnnies will close out the year with a New Year's Eve battle at Georgetown inside Capital One Arena. In its last visit to the nation's capital, the Johnnies shut down the Hoyas, 66-41, marking the lowest scoring total for a BIG EAST opponent in St. John's history.
The Red Storm will play the first of its nine league games at the World's Most Famous Arena on Jan. 3 when it welcomes Providence for one of its seven Saturday home games at MSG. The Johnnies posted an 11-1 record on Saturday's in 2024-25.
Rick Pitino's team will make its first of five trips to the Midwest when it meets Butler on Jan. 6. In the program's last visit to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, St. John's clinched a share of the 2024-25 BIG EAST Regular Season title with a 76-70 win over the Bulldogs.
The Midwest road stint will continue on Jan. 10 when the Red Storm visit Omaha to face off with Creighton in the CHI Health Center.
The Johnnies will return to action in Midtown Manhattan to square off with Marquette on Jan. 13. Next up is a trip to the City of Brotherly Love to take on Villanova on Jan. 17 at the newly named Xfinity Mobile Arena. In the Red Storm's last trip to the venue, St. John's defeated then-No. 1 Villanova, 79-75. New Wildcats Head Coach Kevin Willard was a staff member of Pitino's during stints with the Boston Celtics (1997-2001) and Louisville (2001-07).
On Jan. 20, the Red Storm will welcome Seton Hall from across the Hudson River as the two local foes will square off at MSG for the second consecutive year. On March 1, St. John's secured its first outright BIG EAST Regular Season Championship in 40 years with a win over the Pirates, 71-61.

St. John's will take on its first repeat BIG EAST opponent on Jan. 28 when it battles Butler, marking the first time the teams have played at "The Mecca" in the regular season since Feb. 18, 2014.

The Friars are one of three teams formerly coached by Pitino on the 2025-26 schedule, joined by Iona and Kentucky. The Hall of Famer coached two years at Providence and led the Friars to the 1987 Final Four in his final season there.
