Gabin Thomelier and Antonio Biggs tally goals in the Red Storm’s second straight win
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's Men's Soccer team (4-2-2, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) captured its second straight victory on Sunday night defeating Sacred Heart (1-3-2, 0-0-0 MAAC), 2-1.
The Red Storm outlasted the Pioneers after scoring a pair of goals to take a 2-0 advantage in a physical contest at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium. The Pioneers cut into the deficit before the Johnnies held on to move to 3-1-1 at home.
Gabin Thomelier recorded his first career goal in the 27th minute to put the Red Storm in front, 1-0. The Rennes, France native tallied a goal in just his sixth appearance. Julian Jakopovic logged his first assist of the year on Thomelier's goal.
Antonio Biggs made his first-ever start at center forward and recorded his second career goal. The defenseman added his first game-winner while registering his personal best four shots. Godwin Partey and Ank Nigobora logged assists on the decisive tally.
Nicholas Bezama tallied his second consecutive in between the pipes as the Red Storm held the visitors to five total shots and just two on target.
The Red Storm recorded 10 corner kicks marking the program's most since it logged the same number against Loyola Maryland on oct. 8, 2024.
Biggs, playing up top for the first time in his career recorded the first chance of the evening directing a header that drifted just wide to the right in the seventh minute.

Shortly after, a St. John's red card forced the Red Storm to play a man down for the next 26 minutes of the match. The Red Storm went into the halftime locker room with a one goal advantage.
In the latter half, St. John's doubled its lead in the 56th minute. In its own defensive half, the Red Storm's Nigobora played a short pass to Partey, who bombed it down the field. As the Pioneers' goaltender came out of the box and mishandled the incoming ball. Biggs gained control off the rebound and volleyed a slow-roller that drifted into the center of the net to double the Johnnies lead in the 56thminute, 2-0.
The Pioneers were shown a red card in the 57th minute bringing the match back to even 10-on-10. Sacred Heart just seven minutes later cut into the deficit as Brady Poor knocked home a grounded cross from Ivan Morcillo at the doorstep, 2-1, in the 64th minute.
Over the final 25 minutes of action, St. John's preserved its lead and held onto win, moving to a 4-2-2 mark heading into BIG EAST play.
The Johnnies will next begin BIG EAST competition when it closes their five-match homestand against Xavier at 7 p.m.
