Men’s Soccer to Begin BIG EAST Slate against Xavier on Friday Night

Red Storm carry two-game winning streak into league play as it closes five-match homestand
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's men's soccer team (4-2-2, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) will carry a two-game winning streak into its BIG EAST opener against Xavier (2-2-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) to close its five-match homestand on Friday night in Queens.
The conference opener against the Musketeers will be streamed on ESPN+ with Ralph Bednarczyk and Kevin Connelly on the call from Queens. Tickets are available here and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm won its last two contests earning single-goal decisions over FDU and Sacred Heart last week. The Johnnies captured a 2-1 victory over the Pioneers on Sunday night fueled by goals from Gabin Thomelier and Antonio Biggs. The squad registered three assists from Julian Jakopovic, Ank Nigobora and Godwin Partey in the winning effort.
Bjorn Nikolajewski provided the game-winner in the 1-0 victory over FDU in the 50th minute in his season debut after returning from injury. The graduate student defender was tabbed TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week Honorable Mention after logging his first-ever goal on Thursday night.
The Red Storm backline has been solid logging a 0.75 goals against average through eight games, which ranks top-40 in NCAA Division I. The Johnnies have recorded four shutouts and yet have to concede more than two goals in a single match.
St. John's is 4-0 this season in games where its score the first goal of the contest. Since the beginning of the 2012 season, the Johnnies are 121-12-12 when adding the first tally.
St. John's will begin conference play looking to defend its 2024 Co-BIG EAST East Division Championship. The Red Storm logged a 5-1-2 mark in league competition last season to tally its conference-leading 16th regular season or tournament championship.

Friday's matchup will mark the 12th meeting between the two programs with the all-time series knotted 4-4-3.
