Kayla Bower Named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week; Telma Steindórsdóttir Tabbed to Honor Roll

Bower and Steindórsdóttir led the Red Storm backline to just one goal allowed in a pair of draws in conference play
NEW YORK – St. John's Women's Soccer goalkeeper Kayla Bower was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week; Telma Steindórsdóttir was tabbed to the league's weekly honor roll it was announced on Monday afternoon.
Bower and Steindórsdóttir led a stifling backline effort for the Red Storm in a pair of BIG EAST ties against Providence and Seton Hall. The duo led St. John's to a 0.50 GAA and a shutout in South Orange, N.J. on Saturday.
The senior goalkeeper made 13 saves over the two draws, matching and setting new career-high's this past week. The Lincoln Park, N.J., native recorded a 0.50 GAA, one shutout and led the league in saves.
On the year, Bower is recording 4.9 saves per game and a .831 save percentage, which leads the BIG EAST. Additionally, she has posted a 1.00 GAA, three clean sheets and played all 900 minutes for the Johnnies.
Steindórsdóttir tallied her first career goal on Wednesday. The sophomore tucked home a penalty kick in the bottom right corner with 0.9 remaining in the opening half to knot the score in the 1-1 draw against Providence. On Saturday, Steindórsdóttir led the backline to a shutout against the Pirates on Saturday.
On the year, the Reykjavik, Iceland has started the last nine matches at the center back position playing 90 minutes in all but one match, where she played 89 at Monmouth.
The Red Storm will be back in action on Wednesday night to meet Marquette in Milwaukee at 8 p.m.
