NEW YORK – The St. John's women's basketball program took part in BIG EAST Women's Basketball Media Day on Thursday at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Head Coach Joe Tartamella, along with veterans Brooke Moore, Sa'Mya Wyatt and Daniela Abies, represented the Red Storm at the conference's annual preseason event. Throughout the day, the St. John's contingent met with local and national media, participated in interviews and previewed the upcoming campaign alongside representatives from around the league.
As part of the annual Media Day proceedings, the BIG EAST unveiled its preseason coaches' poll and all-conference selections. Moore and Wyatt were both named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team following standout campaigns in 2025-26. The Red Storm was also picked to finish fourth in the league's preseason coaches' poll, marking the program's highest preseason projection since 2024.
Moore and Wyatt return as two of the Red Storm's most experienced contributors after both earned postseason conference recognition a season ago. Moore garnered All-BIG EAST Second Team honors, while Wyatt was named an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection. Abies also returns after leading the Johnnies on the glass during the 2025-26 campaign, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game.
Tartamella enters his 15th season at the helm, continuing a tenure that has established him as the longest-serving head coach in program history. St. John's will officially tip off the campaign on Nov. 2 when it welcomes Lafayette to Carnesecca Arena.
