Red Storm and Golden Eagles will kick off at 6 p.m. on ESPN+
QUEENS, N.Y. – Fresh off a thrilling come-from-behind victory on Tuesday night against UConn, the St. John's men's soccer team will return to action with its final home game of the regular season on Saturday night against Marquette.
Trailing 2-0 with just over eight minutes to go, the Red Storm pulled off the impossible, scoring three times in the game's final act to secure three crucial points. Cayden Walton and Henrik Ropstad each recorded a goal and an assist during that miraculous stretch. Luca Fargnoli scored the game winner from distance with just over four seconds remaining in the match. Ander Gonzalez and Scott Wilhelmsen also recorded assists in the final eight minutes for the Red Storm.
Wilhelmsen and Gonzalez made their way into the box score just a few days after earning national recognition from TopDrawerSoccer, as the pair found spots in the Midseason Freshman Top 100 list. Wilhelmsen checked in at no. 87 while Gonzalez ranked 97th among first-year players nationwide.
Saturday night's match will have outsize postseason implications for the Red Storm. Entering the weekend, the Red Storm has eight points in the BIG EAST standings. If the season ended today, nine points would be enough to enter a tie breaker for the final spot in the BIG EAST Tournament, which will be held on Nov. 12 and Nov. 15 in Boyds, Md. The two division winners will earn automatic berths while the final two spots in the four-team field will be decided by the highest point totals of the remaining 10 teams.
The Red Storm will honor graduate student defender Ivar Na Aga in a Senior Night ceremony prior to kick-off. Na Aga is in his second year with St. John's in 2026, logging 27 appearances and 25 starts over that stretch. The Norwegian defender started 15 games in 2025, helping the Red Storm earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the 23rd time in program history.
Marquette travels to New York after dismantling DePaul, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in Chicago. Mads Konrad Horgoien tallied two goals and an assist while Gabriel Watkins added one of each. Antonio Costabile chipped in a pair of helpers in the winning effort.
The Golden Eagles boast two of the top five goal scorers in the league in Konrad Horgoein (8) and Tomiwa Adewumi (9). Adewumi, a Pittsburgh product who played in Sporting KC's academy system, ranks second nationally among freshmen and 20th overall in total goals. Sophomore midfielder Joey Buchanan is tied for 10th in the league with six goals on the season.
Cameron Simpson has started 14 games in goal for Marquette this season, compiling a 8-5-1 record to go along with a 1.43 goals against average and a .667 save percentage. The junior from Middlesbrough, England, has tallied five clean sheets.
The Red Storm and the Golden Eagles will meet for the 14th time in a series that dates back to 2005, Marquette's first year in the BIG EAST. Saturday will be the first meeting between the programs since 2023, the league's first year with a divisional structure.
The series is currently level, as both teams hold a record of 5-5-3.
Though the series is even, recent matches have been rather lopsided; four of the last five matches between the teams have featured a four-goal margin of victory. Two of those four-goal matches have gone for the Johnnies while two have been wins for the Golden Eagles.
After taking on the Golden Eagles, the Red Storm will have one regular season game remaining: a Friday night contest at Providence on Nov. 6.
