St. John’s Earns No. 3 seed in BIG EAST Tournament

The Johnnies will face the winner of Villanova and Providence on Friday
NEW YORK – The St. John's women's tennis team will open play in the BIG EAST Tournament, presented by Jeep, on Friday in the quarterfinal round as the No. 3 seed. The tournament will be held on April 16-19 at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
The Red Storm will face the winner of Thursday's first-round matchup between No. 6 Villanova and No. 11 Providence on Friday at 1 p.m. The semifinals and championship matches are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Under Head Coach Lauren Leo, the Johnnies have advanced to 10 consecutive BIG EAST semifinals. Last season, St. John's entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed and swept No. 6 Butler before falling to No. 2 Xavier in the semifinal round.
St. John's enters postseason play following a strong regular season, finishing 15-5 overall and 5-1 in conference action. The Red Storm are led by Noa Kojima, who has posted a 13-3 singles record in her debut season in Queens. Charlotta Buss has also impressed, compiling a 10-3 mark in singles play.
In doubles competition, the duo of Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman have been dominant, recording a 13-1 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark at the No. 1 position. Victoria Papadopoulou and Noemi Babikova have also excelled, going 8-2 overall with a 5-1 record on the No. 2 court.
