Women’s Golf Captures St. John’s Invitational Title

Lily Huynh won medalist honors at Saint Andrew’s Golf Club
HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.- The women's golf team won the team championship at the St. John's Invitational on Tuesday. Sophomore Lily Huynh tied for the individual title for her first medalist honor of her career.
After trailing Fairfield by one stroke heading into the final round, the Red Storm carded a 28-over, 306, the best team score on Tuesday, to finish ahead of the Stags by eight strokes. The Johnnies registered a 62-over, 630, over 36 holes of action at Saint Andrew's Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.
Tuesday's team championship marked the 27th under Head Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo and second in as many years after winning the Northern Kentucky Spring Fling last March. The Red Storm emerged from a 12-team field to defend its home course. The Johnnies had five of their seven golfers finish inside of the top-15.
Huynh finished tied atop the leaderboard with Fairfield's Katelynn Waclawski and Quinnipiac's Natalie Spike in a three-way deadlock for medalist honors in Westchester. The Chatsworth, Calif., product shot 12-over, 154, carding consecutive rounds of 6-over, 77.
Kirsten Lee, who competed as an individual, soared up the leaderboard carding an event-low, 2-over, 73, during the final round. The freshman finished a season-best fifth with a total score of 15-over, 157. Pihla Pennanen matched Lee with a 15-over, for the first top-five finish of her career. The Southern Illinois transfer has logged top-10 placements in back-to-back events and shot 5-over, 76, on Tuesday.
Kelly Wu placed inside the top-10 tying for 10th place with a 16-over, 158. Cathilyn Lee rounded out the Red Storm's team scoring checking in at 16th overall after tallying a 19-over, 161, over 36 holes.
St. John's will be back in action this weekend when it competes at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, N.J. on April 10-11.
