Sharpshooting guard arrives in Queens after two seasons at Campbell
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball program announced the addition of sharpshooting guard Olivia Tucker from Campbell.
Tucker arrives in Queens after two seasons at Campbell, where she averaged 9.1 points per game across 67 appearances and 42 starts. The 5-foot-7 guard ranked eighth in the CAA in 3-pointers made per game with 1.8 and led the Fighting Camels in minutes at a clip of 31.8 per contest.
"We were really impressed with Olivia's ability to shoot the 3 and her overall demeanor as a player, Head Coach Joe Tartamella said. "She made 59 3-pointers this season and her game will allow us to stretch the floor. Additionally, her positive attitude and competitive mindset will fit right in with our culture."
This past season, the Durham N.C., product started all 32 games and finished second on the team in scoring logging 9.1 points per game. The guard knocked down multiple 3-pointers in 16 games and reached double-figures in scoring in 18 contests. Tucker ended the season scoring in double-figures in five of her last six contests, including a season-high 23-point performance against Elon on Feb. 20.
As a freshman, Tucker played in all 35 contests, making nine starts during the 2024-25 campaign helping lead Campbell to a WNIT appearance. The sharpshooter averaged 7.9 points, 2.1 assists in 21.9 minutes of action per game. She reached double-digits in scoring 12 times and logged a pair of 20-plus point performances in back-to-back games. She exploded for a career-high 24 points against East Tennessee State on Nov. 19, 2024 before posting a 20-point outing at Miami three days later going to be named CAA Player and Rookie of the Week.
In high school, Tucker was a four-year varsity player at Panther Creek High School, where she won four district titles and a state championship as a junior. The guard accumulated over 1,000 points during her high school tenure, including a career-best 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.0 steals during her senior year in 2023-24. As a junior, she logged 16.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest and was named the MVP of the state championship game. She racked up accolades throughout her scholastic career as a McDonald's All-American Game nominee and a NCBCA All-District First Team selection in 2024. On the AAU circuit, Tucker played her club basketball with Boo Williams.
Tucker joins a class of four transfers- Sanaa Tripp (Belmont), Reina Green (Duquesne) and Asia Donald and three freshman. The Red Storm is set to welcome back five players from last year's squad that qualified for the WBIT, including All-BIG EAST honorees Brooke Moore and Sa'Mya Wyatt.
