Volleyball Collects AVCA Team Academic Award for 13th Consecutive Year

The team was named to the honor roll for being within the top 20% of GPAs in Division I
QUEENS, N.Y. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Academic Team Awards on Thursday. The St. John's volleyball team collected its 13th straight AVCA Academic Team Award and its 20th overall under the direction of Head Coach Joanne Persico.
The Red Storm was also named to the Team Academic Honor Roll, as the team was recognized as being in the top 20% of GPAs in the NCAA Division I ranks. Carrying a 3.73 team GPA, the Johnnies were one of nine BIG EAST institutions honored and the only conference volleyball program to earn the distinction.
The Johnnies are one of 31 programs in NCAA Division I to be tabbed to the honor in 13 or more consecutive years.
The AVCA Team Academic Award is given to collegiate programs that achieve a 3.3 GPA or higher during the academic year. St. John's has received the accolade more than any other program in the BIG EAST Conference.
Under the guidance of the all-time winningest volleyball head coach in BIG EAST history, Persico's program has posted a 3.0 GPA or higher every year since the program was founded in 1994.
