Carola Tesoro Named to BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

The outside hitter notched a pair of double-doubles during Opening Weekend
NEW YORK – The St. John's volleyball team garnered its first BIG EAST Weekly honor of the 2026 season, as Carola Tesoro was named Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
The outside hitter turned in a pair of double-doubles during a 2-1 opening weekend for the Red Storm. Tesoro becomes the first Johnnie to earn Freshman of the Week since Rashanny Solano Smith was named to the honor twice during the 2023 season.
Through the first weekend of action Tesoro leads the BIG EAST in kills with 66, while averaging 5.08 per set. The Milan, Italy, native added 33 digs to her stat line while playing in all 13 sets.
Tesoro was the center of a well-balanced St. John's attacking unit, starting the weekend with a 17-kill performance and added eight digs during the 3-1 win over Elon. Later that day, she recorded her first double-double of the weekend by firing a weekend-high 26 kills on a .310 hit-ting percentage and adding 12 digs against Old Dominion.
Tesoro continued the momentum against USC Upstate with 23 kills while swinging a match-high .409. She also added 13 digs and a service ace during the 3-1 victory. Her performance earned her Quest for the Crown Player of the Match honors.
Tesoro and the rest of the Red Storm are back in action this weekend in Queens for the first edition of the Lou Carnesecca Invitational from Sept. 4-5. St. John's will host Rider, UAB and East Texas A&M for its first home tournament of the season.
