Carola Tesoro Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Red Storm has claimed three major weekly awards this season
NEW YORK– St. John's Volleyball rookie standout Carola Tesoro was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. This is the third major weekly award for the Johnnies this season.
Tesoro becomes the first freshman in program history to be named offensive player of the week since the award was introduced in 2017. This is her second major weekly award of the season, as she was previously named freshman of the week on Aug. 31.
The outside hitter turned in yet another impressive week for St. John's as the Red Storm went a perfect 4-0 and didn't drop a set over the past week. Tesoro delivered 52 kills in 11 sets of work (4.72 kills per set) and added 28 digs, a pair of service aces and a block.
Tesoro's week was highlighted by a 21-kill, 11-dig double-double in a sweep of Iona to cap the Iona Invitational. She swung .645 for the best hitting percentage of the season by a Johnnie this season. The her 21-kill total is the most by any player in the BIG EAST in a three-set match this year.
The Milan, Italy, product leads the BIG EAST in kills (155) and kills per set (4.43). Those marks rank among the best in the nation, landing tied for seventh in total kills and 11th in kills per set.
Tesoro and the Red Storm will kick off a seven-match homestand this weekend, hosting the 12th Annual Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic on Friday and Saturday.
