The Red Storm will compete in 20-game league slate including a standalone game against UConn on Jan. 24
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST announced the 2026-27 women's basketball conference schedule on Thursday afternoon. The Red Storm will play a 20-game slate, highlighted by a standalone game against UConn at Madison Square Garden for the second straight year.
St. John's is scheduled to face each opponent twice during the 20-contest campaign. The Red Storm is coming off its fourth consecutive winning season heading into the 15th season under the direction of Head Coach Joe Tartamella. During the Tartamella Era, the Johnnies have recorded nine top-five regular season league finishes in 14 years.
Season tickets for the 2026-27 campaign are on sale now for $205, offering fans access to all 16 games at Carnesecca Arena as well as the highly-anticipated matchup with UConn at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 24. All season ticket holders will receive premium 100 level seats for this game, with exact seating assignments determined at a later date. The Red Storm will tip off BIG EAST competition on Dec. 4 when it welcomes Providence to Carnesecca Arena. St. John's has won six of its last seven meetings against the Friars and swept the season series in 2025-26.
Two days later, the Johnnies will hit the road for the first time in league play, traveling to Cincinnati to take on Xavier at Cintas Center on Dec. 6. St. John's has dominated the series in recent years, winning 23 consecutive meetings against the Musketeers dating back to 2016. The Red Storm went 3-0 against Xavier last season, including a 53-48 win in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
St. John's will return to Queens on Dec. 10 to welcome Georgetown to Carnesecca Arena and will close regular season in the nation's capital on Feb. 27.
Following a pair of non-conference home games, the Red Storm will resume league action with its first Midwest trip of the season, traveling to Marquette on Dec. 20. St. John's earned a 73-66 victory at the Al McGuire Center last season and has tallied a victory in two of its last three trips to Milwaukee.
After the Christmas break, Coach Tartamella's group will close out the calendar year at Butler on Dec. 30. St. John's has won 11 of its last 13 meetings against the Bulldogs, dating back to 2020.
The Red Storm will ring in 2027 with back-to-back home contests, beginning with Villanova on Jan. 2. St. John's will look to build off its most recent meeting with the Wildcats, a 71-58 victory at home last season on Jan. 24.
Five days later, Xavier will make the return trip to Queens. St. John's owns a perfect 12-0 all-time home record against the Musketeers.
The Johnnies will then embark on a two-game road swing, beginning at Providence on Jan. 10, before heading to Omaha for a Jan. 14 matchup with Creighton.
St. John's will return home three days later to host DePaul. The Red Storm split its two meetings with the Blue Demons last season, including a 17-point victory in Queens on New Year's Day.
One of the highlights of the conference slate will come on Jan. 24, when St. John's welcomes UConn to Madison Square Garden. The matchup will mark the second consecutive season the two programs will meet at "The World's Most Famous Arena". Last season, the programs squared off in the first-ever standalone St. John's women's basketball game at "The Mecca", with a crowd of 9,612.
The Red Storm will close out January with a road matchup at Villanova on Jan. 28 before returning to Queens to host Marquette on Jan. 31. The latter will be the second meeting between the Johnnies and Golden Eagles after last season's contests were decided by a combined eight points.
St. John's will open February with a two-game road trip, traveling to South Orange, N.J., to battle Seton Hall on Feb. 4, before heading to Chicago to face DePaul on Feb. 7. The Johnnies swept their two regular season meetings with the Pirates last season before dropping a heartbreaker to Seton Hall, 63-61, in the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Red Storm will journey back to Queens for a two-game home stand, beginning with Creighton on Valentine's Day and Butler on Feb. 18. St. John's holds a 10-2 all-time home record against the Bulldogs and has won each of the last five meetings in the series.
St. John's will make its return trip against UConn on Feb. 21, traveling to PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Conn. The matchup will fall on the four-year anniversary of the Red Storm's memorable upset of the Huskies in the same building, when the Johnnies knocked off then-No. 4/5 UConn, 69-64, on Feb. 21, 2023.
The Johnnies will play their final home contest of the regular season on Feb. 24 when Seton Hall makes the trip across state lines.
