Eli Weidmann and Max McColgan log top-15 finishes
HAMPDEN, Mass. – The St. John's men's golf team finished in sixth place at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse on Tuesday.
After yesterday's round was canceled due to heavy rains, the Red Storm played a 36-hole event and carded a 25-over, 601 (300-301). The Johnnies shot a 12-over, 300, in Sunday's opening round and ended the event with a 13-over, 301, on Tuesday in Hampden, Mass.
Rhode Island won the event logging a 2-over, 578 (294-284) with the Rams' Tony Liu taking home medalist honors at GreatHorse.
The sophomore duo of Max McColgan and Eli Weidmann tallied a top-15 finish, both tying for 15th recording a 5-over, 149. McColgan, a Massachusetts native shot a team-best even par, 72, during the final round.
Matthew DiFiore placed 21st overall registering a 6-over, 150, over 36 holes. Josh Yan finished at 9-over, 153, in 39th place to round out the Red Storm's scorers.
St. John's will be back in action at the Nemacolin Invitational hosted by West Virginia on Oct. 5-6.
