St. John's Athletics to Host Dinner of Thanks Nov. 19, 2003 JAMAICA, N.Y. -- The St. John's University Department of Athletics will be hosting its annual Turkey Dinner of Thanks on Thursday night, November 20. Taking place in Marillac Terrace on the Jamaica, Queens campus, the dinner will begin at 7 p.m. As part of the Red Storm's Student Development program, the dinner is an educational workshop that highlights alcohol awareness. A "dry" cocktail hour will be held with alcohol-free champagne and cheese and crackers. The dinner is a special treat for all St. John's student-athletes, as members of each team's coaching staff serves food to the student-athletes. The St. John's Student Development Office has sponsored the dinner for nearly six years, and it is one most popular events combining the student-athletes and their coaches. "It's a great event for everyone involved," Associate Athletic Director for Student Development Mary Pat Beirne said. "Our kids have the opportunity to be served by their coaches, which is a treat, but it's also a great learning for them. "More than anything else, it's a wonderful event prior to the holiday season and exams."
