Bio
As a graduate student in 2021: Started 25 out of the 27 games she played… Batted .354 with four doubles and three home runs… Finished in the top five on the team in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, runs batted in, doubles, home runs and total bases… Named to All-BIG EAST Second Team… Was named to NFCA All-Region Third Team… Named BIG EAST Player of the Week (April 12)… Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (April 26)… Tallied a hit, an RBI and a run scored against DePaul (March 14)… Recorded a base knock in five consecutive games against Butler and Creighton (April 3-April 11) with an RBI in three of the five games… Hit a double and a three-run homer against Villanova (April 24).
As a senior in 2020: Started all 23 games for the Red Storm, batting .281… led the team with 18 hits while racking up six runs scored and seven RBIs… Picked up a BIG EAST Honor Roll selection (Feb. 10)… Singled and reached on a walk in the season opener versus Clemson (Feb. 7)… Went 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of RBIs against Indiana (Feb. 8)… Smacked a season-high four singles and drove in two runs against Clemson (Feb. 9)… Put forth a 2-for-3 performance at the dish and scored a run against Binghamton (Feb. 14)… Went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored against Lamar (Feb. 21)… Smacked two hits and drove in a run against Northern Colorado (Feb. 22)… Singled against San Diego (Feb. 28), before going a flawless 2-for-2 with a run scored the following day (Feb. 29)… Belted her only home run of the shortened season against No. 16/16 Michigan (March 3).
As a junior in 2019: Garnered a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team… In conference play, she batted .286 while scoring 13 runs and knocking seven across the plate in 18 starts… Recorded four multi-hit games… Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (Mar. 25) after 6-for-11 weekend, including the 100th base knock of her career, with four runs scored and two RBIs in the opening weekend of conference play against Providence… In the rubber match against the Friars, she ripped her lone homer of the season and later scored the winning run in the Johnnies’ 6-5 victory over Providence (March 24)… Set the program record for most walks in a game with four against Georgetown (March 30).
As a sophomore in 2018: Made the BIG EAST First Team... Started in 43 games while appearing in 48… Had a .356 batting average on the season, second-best on the team and top 10 in the BIG EAST… Totaled 42 hits, including 11 doubles and five home runs with a .576 slugging percentage… Drove in 20 runs while scoring 15 runs herself…Came off the bench and hit a solo shot to help the Red Storm defeat Villanova (Apr. 6)… In their three-game set versus Seton Hall, Mattera went 6-for-8 with two runs, one RBI, and two walks (Apr. 12-13)… Registered a 2-2 performance with two RBIs and a run scored to help the Red Storm over Wagner (Apr. 18)... Received a NFCA DI Selection to All-Great Lakes Region Team.
As a freshman in 2017: In her rookie season appeared in all but four games, with 40 starts … Leads the team with a .373 batting average and fourth overall in the BIG EAST … In 118 appearances to the plate collected 44 hits including a pinch-hit single in her debut appearance against Delaware (Feb. 11) … Recorded 31 RBIs, for the third most runs batted in on the team … Led the Johnnies to victory over Toledo (Feb. 18) with a walk-off single to drive in the winning run … Recorded her first career homerun in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals (April 12) off the first pitch she saw against Butler, for a three-run homer … Record 13 multi-hit games … Ranked fifth overall in the BIG EAST for on base percentage (.464) … Holds the title as second on the team and sixth in the BIG EAST for put-outs with 218 … Had a total of 26 assists with a fielding percentage of 1.000.
Before St. John's: Four year letter winner in basketball and softball ... hit a two-run homer in the title game to help lead Coventry High School to a 3-2 victory in the 2015 Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division I Softball Championship ... Named to RILL First Team All-State in 2016, RILL Second Team All-State in 2014 and 2015 and RILL Third Team All-State in 2013 ... tabbed to the RILL First Team All Division I in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and RILL Second Team All Division I in 2013 ... earned Providence Journal All-State First Team honors in 2013, 2015 and 2016, and the Second Team honors in 2014 ... batted at least .500 in all four seasons, and hit .600 as a junior ... tallied 72 RBIs and scored 71 runs over four seasons ... played club ball for the Rhode Island Thunder.
