St. John's opened up the scoring late in the first half. Lisa Rinaldi (Montreal, Canada/Laurier McDonald) converted a corner kick by Heather Cook (Seattle, WA/Seattle Lutheran) at the 43:26 mark to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead. However, 1:06 seconds later, Rutgers evened the score at one when Keri Lages took a cross from Jane Albright and found the back of the net. The two teams went into the half with St. John's having a 6-5 advantage in shots.
In the second half, the Scarlet Knights outshot the Red Storm, 12-4, netting two of those shots. The first came at the 68:24 mark with an unassisted goal by Adrienne Dugandzic. After fighting off a number of Red Storm offensive attacks, the Scarlet Knights put the game away with their second goal of the half in the 88th minute on a goal by Lissette Brandao on an assist by Danielle Piotrowsky.
Tina Fogg (Warwick, RI/Warwick Veterans Memorial) suffered the loss, allowing three goals and saving five shots. Her record fell to 5-2-0 with the defeat.
The Red Storm will close out their home season this Friday as they host the Seton Hall Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on October 20th. St. John's will honor their eight seniors who will be playing their final home game at DaSilva Memorial Field.
