Sandoval should contribute immediately, either catching or at third base. This past summer, she played with the Hot Stuff Gold Team in Southern California, leading the squad to a 13th place finish in the 2000 Gold National Tournament held in St. Louis, Mo. A 2000 first team Gold 18 & Under Fast Pitch All-American, Sandoval is currently playing for the California Choppers Gold Team.
Transfers Loughery and Cameron are currently teammates at Briarcliffe Junior College who helped their team to a ninth place finish in the Junior College World Series last season. Loughery is a catcher/designated hitter who will bring some power hitting to the St. Johns lineup. Cameron is a first baseman/outfielder who brings speed, solid defense and strong leadership to the Red Storm. Both are former teammates of current St. Johns outfielder Kelly Houghton, who joins the Red Storm this spring.
The 2001 softball team returns all nine starters from a team that posted a 26-24 overall record. The Red Storm kick off the 2001 season on February 16 at the Triangle Classic Tournament in Raleigh, N.C.
