TURNER LEADS ODU TO 65-52 WIN OVER ST. JOHNS
12/7/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The Lady Monarchs established their presence early on, assuming a 9-1 lead in the opening minutes. From there the Red Storm exploded on a 10-1 run to take an 11-10 lead at the 13:00 mark. Later in the half, junior Rasheedah Brown (Newark, N.J.) gave the Red Storm a 22-16 lead, their largest of the game, on consecutive baskets, one of them a three-pointer. The Lady Monarchs then made another run, and held the Red Storm scoreless from the floor for the final 6:10 of the half. Managing only two free throws in that span, the Red Storm found themselves in a 32-24 hole at the break.
The Red Storm made a few bids at the start of the second half to regain the lead, but their attempts were for naught as Old Dominion maintained its lead for the duration of the game.
Senior Tynisha Myles (Paterson, N.J.) led the Red Storm with 18 points and 13 rebounds, her first double double of the season. Brown added 13 points, three assists and two steals, and freshman Sherri Brown (Willingboro, N.J.) came off the bench to score eight points in 22 minutes of action.
St. Johns will be back in action next Tuesday, December 12 when they host UMBC at 7:30 in Alumni Hall.
