VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS DUQUESNE AT WAGNER
9/16/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
The victory boosts SJU's record to 8-3, while the Dukes fall to 7-4.
After taking the first game 15-11, the Storm jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second game, before the Dukes started to inch back into it. Despite a late rally by Duquesne, St. John's hung on to take the second game, 15-12. The Red Storm trailed for most of the third game. Down 6-2, the St. John's managed to tie the game at 7-7. Junior Kristy Mercein (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) gave the Storm an 8-7 lead with one of her nine kills. It was a seesaw battle the rest of the way, as the Storm closed out the match with an ace by Mercein and a solo block by senior Aleeza Miller (Los Angeles, Calif./Cal-Berkeley).
Roudovski's 26 kills were a season-high and she has now recorded 20+ kills in four of the last five matches. Freshman Rosalyn Dang (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) was the only other St. John's player in double figures with 10 kills.
The Wagner Tournament continues tomorrow as the Storm take on Lehigh at 5:00 and Wagner at 8:00.
