St. Johns Softball Named Top 10 in NFCA Academic Poll

Jamaica, N.Y. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has named the St. Johns University softball team as top All-Academic team. Through this program, the NFCA honors high school and collegiate softball teams for their success in the classroom. St. Johns finished tenth in the NCAA Division I category with a 3.357 team GPA.
Besides receiving team recognition, eight Red Storm student-athletes were also named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes. Student-athletes had to acquire a 3.5 GPA for the 2000-2001 year in order to qualify for the individual honor. Current players honored include seniors Ann Raab (Freehold, N.J./Allentown), Lisa Tropea (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), Amy Crook (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East/Drake), and junior Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio/Mathews). Class of 2001 honorees includes Michele Crokus, Jeanine Giammarino, Courtney Nilan and Danielle Sweeney.
The 2002 Red Storm squad will begin their season on February 15 at the Florida State Tournament.
